ACTEDO Activity Report 2018

In 2018, ACTEDO continued its human rights work by facilitating the access to justice of vulnerable groups through The Pro Bono Network for human rights, by advocating for human rights and for the regulation of pro bono legal assistance and representation in Romania, supporting the LGBT+ community, drafting reports as well as participating in other activities.

Through the Pro Bono Network for Human Rights, in 2018:

  • we received 61 requests for legal help;
  • we facilitated the access to justice for 17 beneficiaries who alleged violations of human rights in cases related to disability, sexual harassment, social housing, the right to information during pregnancy, the right to education of children with disabilities, discrimination on the basis of HIV among others.

From 2015 until 2018:

  • we facilitated the access to justice of 174 persons;
  • we managed to list the help of 81 lawyers all around Romania and even abroad.

We also participated in the 2018 Global Pro Bono Forum, where we spoke about the pressure civil society faces in Romania.

ACTEDO also participated in the VOCIARE project for the Evaluation of the implementation of the rights of crime victims in Europe and published a report assessing the implementation of the 2012/29 / EU Directive on the rights, support, and protection of victims of crime and made recommendations to the state institutions.

We also actively helped organize Cluj Pride 2018 and were involved in the 16-day Campaign of Activism against Gender-based Violence.

Last, but not least, we participated in the UN Universal Periodic Review on the 16th of January and 11 of our recommendations for Romania were passed on to Romania’s Permanent Mission by different states.
