Human rights area: physical and verbal assault, assault by law enforcement
A new case was taken up through The Pro Bono Network for Human Rights. It is about a young man who was physically and verbally abused by the Romanian Gendarmerie and Police. He was at the seaside, in Constanța county, with another young man and they were joking around, speaking louder and shouting. He claims he was handcuffed, slammed into the police car and taken to the station where he was knocked to the ground and forced to unlock his phone by fingerprinting it in order to delete some video footage of the assault. When the other boy was brought into the station, the gendarmes made homophobic jokes, perceiving the two men as gay. The beneficiary requested legal assistance to try to seek justice and to potentially file a criminal complaint against those who assaulted him.
The case was taken over by lawyer Diana Ducă (Constanta Bar), whom we thank and wish a lot of success in solving the case!
