Case #125: Legal assistance in the succession process for a survivor of domestic violence

Vulnerable group:  women, children

Human rights area: tenancy rights

Bucharest

A new case was taken over through The Pro Bono Network for Human Rights. The petitioner who contacted us is a survivor of domestic violence, escaping a marriage that ended in divorce, with the lady obtaining sole custody of her only child and a protection order against her ex-husband, whom she still fears. She lived abroad for a while, holding down several jobs, but had to resign and return to Romania as her father's health deteriorated and he needed hospitalization, eventually dying. His father remarried in his old age to a woman from another country, from whom he actually separated in 2016, but they did not introduce the actual divorce proceedings until after his death. At the time of his hospitalization, the gentleman made a notarized will for his daughter. The lady currently has a probate case, with a high stamp duty and her financial situation prevents her from being able to support the legal proceedings. She has requested pro bono legal assistance and representation in court in the succession process.

The case was taken over by lawyer Silvia Pîrșan (Bucharest Bar) towhom we thank and wish a lot of success in solving the case!
