Thursday, October 21st, 2021, between 17:00 and 19:00, ACTEDO, together with the Center for Legal Resources (CLR), organized a workshop dedicated to providers of support services for people in vulnerable situations, entitled: The Roma Minority: (Non)discrimination, Housing Rights and Hate Speech.
The workshop was built around current problems and solutions to ensure the inclusion of Roma in Romania and their right to personal dignity. Cezara David, Manager of the Anti-Discrimination Program of the Center for Legal Resources and special guest at the workshop touched on the following topics:
- brief historical context and terminology
- data on the current situation of the Roma in Romania
- (non) discrimination
- hate speech and hate crimes
- housing: forced evictions, environmental racism, criteria for granting social housing
- guidelines to improve the situation
One of the objectives of the meeting was to exchange information and good practices between support service providers - state-run social services, NGOs, and informal support groups - at the national level, in order to facilitate inter-institutional communication and improve the referral of beneficiaries to complementary services. At the same time, the speakers presented the results of the largest pro bono clearinghouse in Romania - The Pro Bono Network for Human Rights - in its 6 years of existence. Through The Pro Bono Network, people in vulnerable situations can benefit from free legal assistance and representation in court (pro bono).
